TOURIST ACTIVITIES

ISLA DE PASCUA -
RAPANUI

Moai at Ahu Tahai

What to do: Walk to the ceremonial platform of Ahu Tahai, located just a short distance from the town center. This site features restored moai statues facing inland, including one with restored coral eyes — a rare sight on the island. Why it’s special: It’s one of the best places to watch the sunset behind the moai — a truly iconic Easter Island experience. Tip: Bring your camera and go in the late afternoon for amazing photos!

Pea Beach

What to do: Enjoy the island’s crystal-clear waters at Pea Beach, a small but beautiful spot right in Hanga Roa. You can rent snorkeling gear and swim among colorful fish and even spot sea turtles. Why it’s special: It’s one of the few beaches on the island where you can swim safely, and it's located just steps from restaurants and cafés. Tip: Go early in the morning for calmer waters and better visibility.

Tapati Rapa Nui

Tapati (which means “week of Rapa Nui”) is a cultural and sports festival that celebrates the traditions, heritage, and identity of the Rapa Nui people. What to do: Enjoy traditional Rapa Nui music, vibrant costumes, and energetic dances that tell the stories of the island’s ancient past. Why it’s special: It’s a chance to connect with the living culture of Easter Island and support local performers. Tip: Book tickets in advance, especially during high season.

SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA, CHILE

Valle de la Luna

What to do: Take a guided tour to the Valle de la Luna, a surreal desert landscape formed by wind and salt erosion. Walk through canyons and dunes, and watch the sky change colors as the sun sets behind the Andes. Why it’s special: It feels like walking on another planet — NASA has even used it to simulate Martian missions. Tip: Bring a windbreaker, water, and your camera. Sunset hours get chilly but are magical.

Atacama Desert

What to do: Join a professional astronomy tour in the middle of the desert to observe the clearest night skies in the world. You’ll use powerful telescopes to see planets, nebulae, and galaxies with expert explanations. Why it’s special: Due to its high altitude, dry air, and minimal light pollution, Atacama is one of the top stargazing spots on Earth. Tip: Tours usually include hot drinks and blankets — nights can be freezing even in summer!

Tatio Geysers

What to do: Wake up early for a tour to the El Tatio Geysers, the third-largest geyser field in the world. Walk among steaming vents and bubbling pools at sunrise, when the contrast of light and steam is most dramatic. Why it’s special: You’ll be over 4,000 meters above sea level, surrounded by volcanic peaks and geothermal activity. Tip: Dress in layers, bring coca tea for altitude, and don't skip breakfast — it’s a chilly and early adventure.
